I hope you don’t mind me getting in touch. I’m the Comms lead at Trent Rivers Trust. We’re a charity dedicated to restoring the Trent and tributaries.
Having teamed up with the Angling Trust and Rapala, I’m reaching out with a multi-species angling challenge. We were hoping your members might like to join. As you’re fishing on the Trent and tributaries, you might have come across the story that the Trent got its name from the thirty species that once swam in its waters.
This is why we developed Trent30. It‘s a challenge asking anglers to log 30 different species on the Trent and tributaries. It’s a tough ask, we know, and whether it’s possible, is up to anglers to prove. We’re not after the biggest catches, you can disclose the size if you like, but we’d rather hear about variety.
To encourage people to submit surveys each month, there’s a monthly prize worth £100+ provided by Rapala. At the end, there’ll be a grand prize open to the anglers who managed to catch the most species.
The campaign runs on an app survey. You will have your own private survey map, where you can log the catches, which we’ll pull together in a final report at the end of the campaign. This will be available from 9th June.
For now, we’re asking anglers to register and to share the campaign.
You can register here (and get a preview of the survey questions on page 2).
You can promote the campaign by using this link. On this page, you’ll find visuals and copy you can use as well as campaign details, such as competition rules and our privacy policy.
We’re hoping to use this data to get a better picture of the state of the Trent and to focus our restoration efforts, where they’re most needed. This data will be reported to the Environment Agency and other environmental organisations dedicated to fishing or river health in the Trent and tributaries.
Any questions, do let me know. If urgent, from tomorrow, I will be on leave until 1st June, so would advise getting in touch with @Scott McKenzie , our Head of Rivers, with any questions.
Looking forward to hopefully seeing some catches pop up on 16th June.
Best wishes,
Vanessa Sumpmann
